Anyone else feel guilty for ignoring a small transmission noise for way too long

gonna be honest this is partly a confession and partly a genuine question because i think i need someone to either validate my decision or tell me i really messed up here. so my journey had this faint whining noise starting maybe two months ago, really subtle, only noticeable during acceleration between first and second gear, and because it wasn't loud and the car still drove completely normal otherwise i just kept telling myself it was nothing, probably just road noise or something with the tires, anything other than the transmission because honestly i didn't want to deal with the hassle or the potential cost of actually looking into it. fast forward to last week and that subtle whine turned into this much more noticeable grinding sound, and now there's this hesitation before it shifts that definitely wasn't there before, which is obviously what finally scared me into actually taking this seriously instead of just hoping it would magically resolve itself over time like i'd apparently been unconsciously hoping for the past two months. told my brother about it and he didn't hold back, straight up said i probably turned a cheap fix into an expensive one by waiting this long, which stung a little to hear but honestly he's probably right and i can't really argue with that logic. he's had jeeps and dodges for years so he actually knows this stuff better than me, and he said these transmissions usually give you warning signs way before they actually fail completely, but people including apparently myself tend to ignore those warnings until it's too late to catch it early and cheap. so now i'm in this spot where i need to actually get it looked at properly instead of continuing my streak of denial, and i've been trying to find somewhere that actually specializes in this stuff rather than a general shop that'll just tell me what i want to hear or worse, not catch the real underlying issue because they're not familiar enough with these specific transmissions. i came across a page for quality dodge gearbox and transmission repair in sharjah while searching last night that actually walked through common failure signs pretty clearly, which weirdly made me feel a bit better since at least now i understand roughly what i'm walking into instead of going in completely blind and anxious about the unknown. for anyone who's been in a similar spot where you ignored a smaller noise longer than you probably should have, how much worse did it actually end up getting once you finally addressed it, and more importantly is there actually a point of no return with these things where waiting too long turns a repair into a full replacement situation, or does that really depend more on the specific issue than just how long you waited. also just curious if anyone else deals with this same kind of denial thing with car problems in general, like i know logically ignoring a warning sign rarely ends well but there's still something in my brain that just wants to pretend the problem doesn't exist until it becomes impossible to ignore anymore, and i'm wondering if that's a common thing or if i'm just uniquely bad at dealing with this stuff compared to everyone else here who probably handles these situations way more responsibly than i apparently do.
