Figured I'd post this as a warning because I learned the expensive way. Been storing small amounts of diesel for our farm equipment in a couple of secondhand IBCs that used to hold fruit juice, cleaned them out really well and thought everything was fine. Well, the municipality did a surprise inspection last week and asked to see the UN markings on the tanks. Turns out even for diesel storage on private agricultural land, they want IBC Tanks UN approved for flammable liquids if you're holding more than 200 liters. I didn't even know there was a difference to be honest, just figured a tank is a tank. The officer showed me the regulation and apparently the approval covers things like static dissipation and the valve being flame arrester rated. So yeah, 5000 dirham fine later and I'm scrambling to replace three tanks before they come back for a recheck. Anyone know if I can sell the old ones for water storage only or should I just scrap the cages and repurpose the liners as trough liners? Definitely check your tanks if you're storing anything even slightly risky, don't assume.
