Land Rover Discovery Sport transmission whining in reverse – any idea what that is?
I've got a 2017 Discovery Sport with about 110k km on it and recently noticed a whining noise that only happens when I shift into reverse and apply a little throttle. Forward gears are perfectly fine, no slipping or rough shifts. I took it to a local garage and they just shrugged and said "bring it back when it gets worse", which isn't very reassuring. I've been reading up on the ZF 9-speed that these use and apparently they can have issues with the valve body or even the reverse clutch pack. A buddy told me to check out https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/brands/land-rover/ because they might have experience with these transmissions. Has anyone here dealt with a similar whine on a Discovery Sport or Evoque? I'm wondering if it's low fluid or something more serious. I'd rather fix it early than wait for a full breakdown on the highway. Any shop recommendations in Sharjah that actually diagnose instead of guessing would be amazing.
