My Mini Cooper S is drinking oil like crazy - is this normal?
I'm starting to get really concerned about my 2018 Mini Cooper S and I'm hoping someone here can tell me if this is just a quirk of these engines or if I have a serious problem on my hands. I've had the car for about two years now and it's been generally reliable, but over the past few months I've noticed that I'm having to top up the engine oil every couple of weeks, which seems excessive to me. I'm going through about a liter of oil every 1500 kilometers or so, and there's no visible leak on the driveway or any blue smoke from the exhaust, so I'm guessing it's burning it internally somewhere. I've read that the BMW N18 engines in these cars can have issues with the valve stem seals or the PCV system, but I'm not sure if that would cause this much oil consumption. I took it to a general garage and they just said "these cars all do that" which I find hard to believe because surely this isn't normal for a modern engine. I really need to find a specialist who actually works on these cars regularly and can do a proper diagnosis rather than just guessing. Someone at a car club event mentioned Dubai Mini Cooper competitive repair and said there are some good independent shops in Al Quoz that deal with Minis and BMWs all day long and know exactly what to look for. Has anyone here had excessive oil consumption on their Cooper S and found out what the actual cause was? I'm debating whether it's worth fixing or if I should just keep topping it up and live with it.
